Wall construction

wall cladding

The walls will be constructed of a high tech sandwich construction which provides strength and stability as well as offering excellent thermal and sound insulation, and optimum moisture control. The core of the wall is made from 100mm British manufactured structural insulation panels (SIPs), this provides an incredibly strong frame to support the roof structure whilst preventing thermal bridging across the internal and external walls.

All joints between the sips are sealed and taped to meet air tightness standards required by building regulations, and to provide a continuous vapour barrier. The building is then externally wrapped in an breathable membrane before being battened at close spacing to create an air gap between the SIP and the external wall finish, this air gap is an important factor in moisture control to ensure longevity to the structure.

The U value of the finished wall will be 0.22 – exceeding building regulations

The external wall finish will be horizontally fixed European redwood PVTG 20mm thick cladding, our large board sizes give approximately 6 board widths per meter of height. Also known as Scots Pine, this is a very popular softwood cladding that is choosen for its durability, stability and ability to take a long lasting finish.

All our Redwood is sourced through PEFC/FSC certified suppliers to ensure we only use sustainable and properly managed timber.

Redwood cladding must be protected using a finish coat to protect the wood from decay and insect damage. We professionally apply all our finishes in a multi coat system to provide re-coat times in excess of 5 years.

Your building will be painted in a professional multi-coat paint system. Prior to installing the cladding we paint the tongue and grooves of each individual plank, to ensure that bare wood can not be exposed during seasonal wood movement
